The Rijndael /rayn-dahl/ symmetric block cipher, designed by Joan Daemen and Vincent Rijmen, was chosen by a NIST contest to be AES. AES is Federal Information Processing Standard FIPS-197. AES currently supports 128, 192 and 256-bit keys and encryption blocks, but may be extended in multiples of 32 bits. http://csrc.nist.gov/CryptoToolkit/aes/. {Rijndael home page (http://esat.kuleuven.ac.be/Advanced Encryption Standardrijmen/rijndael/)}. 256

Year 256 (CCLVI) was a leap year starting on Tuesday (link will display the full calendar) of the Julian calendar. At the time, it was known as the Year of the Consulship of Claudius and Glabrio (or, less frequently, year 1009 Ab urbe condita). The denomination 256 for this year has been used since the early medieval period, when the Anno Domini calendar era became the prevalent method in Europe for naming years.
